Thank you for your interest in the APP Neurology Fellowship! Our program was built to further Advanced Practice skills specifically in Neurology to build comprehensive and compassionate APPs in specialty care. Our goal is to provide growth in clinical and professional skills that will create a standard of excellence in clinical practice. Our program takes place alongside well-established residency program, allowing for collaborative educational opportunities as well as a variety of faculty and staff to teach clinical skills.

My role in this program is to oversee the fellow’s education and training.  I have been a PA in Pediatric Neurology since 2015 and primarily oversee the pediatric headache program as part of my clinical practice.  I have been a preceptor for PA and NP students since 2017, and have been teaching Residents since 2019. I lecture regularly with the UW PA Program, and have lectured at APP Grand Rounds, WAPA Conference, and more.  Most recently I have been awarded the Excellence in Teaching award at the UW.  I am passionate about teaching and furthering our profession.

Madison (population 255,000) is a wonderful place to live and offers all amenities that one would find in a much larger city. The University of Wisconsin is one of the top universities in the country and is adjacent to the medical center. We believe the program offers a superb experience, both professionally and personally. If you have any questions about the program, please do not hesitate to contact me.

A Philadelphia native, Dr. Sattin earned his medical degree from Jefferson Medical College in Philadelphia and completed his medicine internship and neurology residency at the University of Virginia. He completed a two-year stroke fellowship at the University of California-San Diego. Dr. Sattin has served as medical director for UW’s comprehensive stroke center, its neurology residency training program, and in numerous other leadership roles. His main interests are in acute stroke treatment, medical ethics, and neurologic education. His most recent focus is on helping to develop a fellowship program in neurology for advanced practice providers (APPs). The purpose of this program is to help APPs develop advanced competence in the seemingly esoteric field of neurology and thereby improve access to neurologic care in Wisconsin and beyond.

Thank you for your interest in our program! I been a member of the Department of Neurology at the University of Wisconsin since 2003. I have received multiple teaching awards for teaching medical students and neurology residents. Since 2017, I have worked closely with Cassie Meffert, PA, in teaching APPs who rotate through child neurology. I am actively involved in outpatient as well as inpatient child neurology. I am active in the pediatric epilepsy surgery program, and am Director of Pediatric Epilepsy, Director of the Pediatric Ketogenic Diet Program, and Medical Director of the Universal Care Unit (an inpatient unit at the American Family Children’s Hospital). My role in the APP fellowship program is to help open these and other learning environments to APP fellows, and to participate in individualized teaching. I believe that patient care is best provided by teams of RNs, APPs and physicians. My goal is to help train APPs who are best equipped to participate in such teams.
