Introduction:
During this 1-4 week rotation, fellows will attend outpatient stroke clinics at the UW and VA hospitals and may attend related clinics, such as vascular neurosurgery and physiatry.
Goals:
The goal of this rotation is for fellows to develop skill in the outpatient evaluation and management of patients with known or suspected cerebrovascular disease. The emphasis is on evaluating spells concerning for TIA and stroke, the rational selection and interpretation of diagnostic studies, and the development of stroke mechanism-specific secondary stroke prevention regimens.
Objectives and Evaluation Matrix:
As with all of the neurology rotations, the specific objectives are reflected in the entrustable professional activities and individual milestones listed below. These form the basis for the end-of-rotation evaluation.
# | Description | Milestones |
1 | Evaluate patients who have been diagnosed with stroke or have symptoms consistent with stroke, formulate their cases, and propose appropriate diagnostic and therapeutic plans | PC1, PC2, PC4, PC5, MK1, MK2, MK4, MK5, MK6, MK7, SP1, SP3, SP4, PL1, PR2, IC1, IC2 |
2 | Appropriately order and interpret neuroimaging studies | MK3, SP4 |
3 | Counsel patients and their families regarding their diagnoses, prognoses, and treatment options | SBP4, PR1, IC1, IC2 |
4 | Clearly document and place orders in Health Link and follow up on the results of tests | SBP3, PR2, IC3, IC4 |
